Metallurgist’s Day is a professional holiday that honors everyone in the metallurgical industry. It is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of July, and this year it falls on 21 July.
The holiday was established in 1957 in the Soviet Union. At that time the country’s leadership highly valued the importance of the metallurgical industry for rebuilding and developing the state. The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet decree of 28 September 1957 began the tradition of celebrating Metallurgist’s Day. Later this tradition was confirmed by decrees in October 1980 and November 1988.
For many years this day has been an occasion to congratulate and award people involved in metallurgy — from mining and processing metals to manufacturing products from them. Their labor has a tremendous impact on the economy, supplying it with necessary materials and resources.
The holiday is celebrated not only in Russia but also in other countries where metallurgy plays an important role in the economy. Metallurgists’ labor is recognized and valued worldwide, underscoring the importance of their contribution to industrial development.
