The Central Plant Laboratory at PZPS has successfully completed accreditation

Laboratory accreditation is an important process confirming that a laboratory meets certain criteria and standards needed to ensure high quality of products released.

Petersburg Plant of Precision Alloys successfully completed the process of combining five research laboratories into the Central Plant Laboratory (CPL) and conducted its accreditation. This became a significant step in developing and improving the quality control system at the enterprise.

Essence of the laboratory accreditation procedure

The laboratory accreditation procedure is aimed at establishing its conformity to the following criteria:

  • Presence of qualified personnel. Laboratory employees have the appropriate education, work experience, and skills needed to conduct research and measurements.
  • Technical equipment. The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment making it possible to ensure high accuracy and reliability of research and measurements conducted.
  • Presence of a quality management system. A quality management system operates in the laboratory that ensures control over all stages of research and measurements.
  • Compliance with legislative requirements. The laboratory complies with legislative requirements in ensuring uniformity of measurements, technical regulation, and safety.

During accreditation it was assessed how far the CPL meets these criteria, after which certificates confirming its competence and right to conduct measurements in specific areas were issued.

Goals of laboratory accreditation

Laboratory accreditation is conducted for several goals:

  • Confirming competence and technical equipment of the laboratory.
  • Ensuring trust in research and measurement results.
  • Raising quality of products and services.
  • Monitoring compliance with legislative requirements and standards in the quality field.
  • Stimulating development of the system for ensuring uniformity of measurements in the country.

Laboratory accreditation is an integral part of the quality assurance process that confirms the enterprise has all necessary resources and knowledge to conduct accurate and reliable research and measurements.

Advantages of accreditation

Accreditation of the CPL at PZPS gave the enterprise a number of substantial advantages:

  • Raising trust of clients and partners. Certified laboratories guarantee high quality and reliability of test results, which raises trust in the enterprise’s products.
  • Reducing the risk of claims and complaints. Conformity to legislative requirements and current standards reduces the likelihood of claims and complaints from consumers.
  • Raising product quality. Accreditation makes it possible to exercise strict quality control at all production stages, which contributes to reducing rejects and raising consumer satisfaction.
  • Developing the quality assurance system. Laboratory certification stimulates development of the quality management system at the enterprise, which raises product competitiveness and reduces costs.

Accreditation of testing laboratories is an important step for any industrial enterprise striving to raise product quality, reduce costs, and develop the quality management system. For PZPS, CPL accreditation means strengthening market positions, raising competitiveness, and increasing trust from clients and partners.

Structure reorganization

At PZPS the CPL includes five testing laboratories:

  • X-ray spectral laboratory. Analyzes chemical composition of steels and alloys by X-ray fluorescence and atomic emission methods.
  • Mechanical laboratory. Determines main mechanical characteristics of materials: strength, hardness, and elasticity.
  • Metallographic laboratory. Controls macro- and microstructure of materials using reflected-light optical microscopes.
  • Physical laboratory. Determines main physical characteristics of materials: coercive force, magnetic induction, magnetic permeability, specific losses, electrical resistance, and coefficient of linear thermal expansion.
  • Linear-angular measurements laboratory. Controls strip surface quality and flatness by measuring roughness and camber.

The CPL not only controls quality of products released but also provides services in analyzing chemical composition, micro- and macrostructure of materials, and determining mechanical properties and physical characteristics of steels and alloys. PZPS also offers a wide range of various production services: from improving technological processes to developing new materials.
