Petersburg Plant of Precision Alloys continues active steps to implement its import-substitution program, setting one of its most important goals — to reduce the share of imported stainless steel on the Russian market.
According to analysis by experts from the Spetsstal Association, from January to September 2023 the share of imported metal products in stainless steel consumption in Russia was 74.7%, while domestic products accounted for only 25.3%. Dependence is especially high in flat hot-rolled and cold-rolled products — 78.4% and 96.3% respectively.
Recognizing the importance of import substitution, PZPS actively develops domestic production of stainless steel and precision alloys. Through highly qualified specialists and its research center, the company successfully develops analogues of foreign steels such as Kovar and Inconel.
One of the key factors supporting import substitution is expanding production capacity. PZPS is increasing output of stainless steels and precision alloys. This makes it possible to supply other manufacturers with high-quality domestic cold-rolled strip that matches foreign analogues.
Supporting import substitution plays a key role in developing domestic industry, creating new jobs, and strengthening the country’s financial stability. It also helps raise product quality and improve technological processes, reduces dependence on external suppliers, and lowers risks linked to changes in world prices for imported goods.
PZPS’s import-substitution efforts make a substantial contribution to sustainable economic development and confirm the enterprise’s firm commitment to strengthening domestic industry. The steps taken not only reduce import dependence but also stimulate innovation and investment in domestic production.
