World Quality Day: quality as a standard at the St. Petersburg Precision Alloys Plant

Every year on the second Thursday of November the world community celebrates World Quality Day. This day is not simply a formal date on the calendar but an occasion to emphasize the significance of the highest standards for sustainable development and technological sovereignty of the country. For Petersburg Plant of Precision Alloys this day has special significance: here quality is not simply an industry indicator but a fundamental principle lying at the basis of every production process and every kilogram of products released.

Our plant produces unique materials — precision alloys that become the basis for critical units and high-precision systems in the aerospace industry, energy, and the defense-industrial complex. Not only equipment reliability but also safety of people performing the most important missions depends on stability of their characteristics. The slightest deviation from specified parameters may lead to critical consequences — exactly therefore the quality control system at the enterprise is built with unprecedented thoroughness.

Quality system: flawlessness at every stage

At PZPS quality is not the end point of the production chain but a continuous process covering all stages: from raw material acceptance to shipment of finished products. Control is built on the “zero error” principle and based on international standards.

To make sure that every alloy meets specified characteristics, products undergo checking in five specialized laboratories where specialist experience combines with the power and accuracy of modern measuring and analytical equipment.

Five pillars of accuracy: PZPS testing laboratories

Mechanical laboratory

Here key mechanical properties of alloys are checked — tensile strength, yield strength, relative elongation, hardness. Tests and measurements are conducted on modern setups.

Physical laboratory: characteristics that cannot be seen

In this laboratory magnetic parameters, specific electrical resistance, and temperature coefficient of linear expansion (TCLE) are determined. Such measurements are especially important for alloys used in electronics and instrument engineering, where stability of characteristics is a matter of reliability and accuracy.

Metallographic laboratory: under the microscope — perfection of structure

Alloy quality is determined by its internal structure. Metallographers study micro- and macrostructure, determine grain size, phase composition, presence of non-metallic inclusions and crystal lattice defects. Images obtained using optical microscopes make it possible to analyze structure change after heat treatment and predict alloy behavior in service. These data not only confirm quality of current batches but also serve as a basis for improving technologies in the future.

Spectral laboratory: chemistry of accuracy

Every alloy has its “chemical passport.” Using modern X-ray fluorescence and atomic emission spectral analyzers, engineers determine content of main and alloying elements to thousandths of a percent. Special attention is paid to controlling impurities that may affect material properties. Thus strict conformity to GOST, TU, and individual customer requirements is ensured.

Linear-angular measurements laboratory: geometry without compromise

Here strip sizes and geometry are controlled — thickness, deviation from flatness, surface roughness. Measurements are performed using high-precision instruments, which guarantees ideal geometry and flatness of every cold-rolled strip.

International recognition: QMS conformity certificate GOST R ISO 9001-2015

A stably high level of production culture, product quality, and effectiveness of our management system are confirmed officially. Petersburg Plant of Precision Alloys holds a QMS conformity certificate GOST R ISO 9001-2015. This document is not simply a formality. It is recognized proof that all processes at the enterprise, from raw material purchasing to shipment of finished products, are regulated, traceable, and controllable in accordance with the best world practices.

Quality as a strategic priority

On World Quality Day Petersburg Plant of Precision Alloys once again confirms: quality for us is a synonym of trust.

This is the trust of clients confident in the stability of our materials.
